We have received shocking video footage of APWA Heavyweight Champion El Mascarado Mexicano being assaulted by a masked assailant following a training session on Tuesday 17 January. To view the video, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2BtEIPh4g8 (please note that this is not for sensitive viewers).

El Mascarado is currently hospitalised and could be potentially sidelined from in-ring action. After being stalked at his own home a few days ago, where his window was smashed in with a brick carrying a threatening message, an investigation was conducted to determine the harrasser. We will have more updates on his health as well as news from the investigation. APWA officials have stressed to all wrestlers that this type of behaviour will not be condoned, and that competition is to be kept inside the ring only. Earlier today, El Mascarado posted this message on social networks: “So I’m in hospital. The attacker crept up from behind and threw me with a chair. I was beat up very bad and the last image I remember was a table hitting me in the face and my head hitting the steel steps. The doctor said my condition is stable and I can be out of here in two days. I suffered a severe concussion. Who is this tormenting me and why???”

The author of the footage is unknown, but Johnny “Iceman” Sabin, who uploaded it to his official Youtube channel at youtube.com/thejohnnysabin, is alleging that it was sent to him earlier this morning. Sabin announced on 17 December that he was officially quitting APWA, which has led to much speculation over what would happen next in his future. The former APWA Heavyweight Champion added, regarding the footage, “APWA is again trying to screw SABIN. I think it’s Ananzi. Makes sense. Why was he the first one on the scene?” With fingers being pointed at Sabin and at several others, a cloud of suspicion currently hangs over the APWA locker room. Who could this mysterious figure be?

APWA management has announced that the 27 January event at the Danie van Zyl Recreation Centre was unable to be secured and will be held at a later date. Upon negotiating for the event to occur, local government officials refused to sign and release the papers. Reasons are being cited that the nature of the unsanctioned father-versus-son match between Terri Middoux VS Zizou Middoux is too personal to let out of the box, and that – and we quote – “no audience should be subject to the unmitigated viciousness of a blood sport that glorifies a highly personal matter such as family abatement”.

Due to this unexpected, external postponement and with the newly-formed partnership between APWA and United Kingdom’s Power Trip Wrestling, PTW head PT Playa has allowed stablemate Zizou Middoux to challenge his father for the PTW World Heavyweight Title at any time, any place and anywhere! APWA management has asked referee Muhammed Valiallah to be prepared 24/7 to officiate the match upon Zizou’s request. This bitter, emotional father-versus-son face-off has taken an unpredictable turn. Where and when will this much-awaited fight occur?! APWA intends to have it on tape, so keep watching this space! The audience wants this match, and we will give it to them, no matter what it takes!

APWA Tag Team Champions Vaatjie en Japie (Donovan Loudmouth and Blizzard) have issued an open challenge to anyone on the African continent willing to take them on. After defeating quite possibly one of the greatest South African tag teams in The French Connection to win the championships, they are in the most prominent place they’ve ever been in in their careers, and they can no longer be called “underestimated” – now, they are THE guys to beat. The APWA Tag Team Championships are both Loudmouth and Blizzard’s very first titles. How will they fare in the months to come, and what other team can match the most overlooked wrestlers in APWA?
