A long-running score will be settled at the next Bellatrix: Female Warriors show on October 6 at Epic Studios in Norwich, England when Norwich resident “Sweet” Saraya Knight takes on her heated rival Cheerleader Melissa at part of the star-studded Bellatrix 7: Bellatrix v SHIMMER event.
The pair have battled on both sides of the Atlantic and traded the SHIMMER Championship over the last 18 months, with their most recent contest taking place inside a steel cage in New Jersey in April, where Melissa regained the title – though their battles began here in Norfolk, with the pair meeting for the first time at an event in Great Yarmouth in January 2007.
In the five contests between them, each has won two, and there has been one no-contest – and it is the inconclusive match from June 17, 2007 which is the reason for the bad blood.
“We were scrapping outside the ring and my kneecap was severed on an upturned chair – I was passing in and out of consciousness and she was still trying to attack me,” tells Saraya. “I was told by doctors at the hospital that I wouldn’t wrestle again and I may even lose my leg, but I was wrestling again inside six months.
“I didn’t forget about what happened, and when I travelled to the United States with my daughter in 2011 (who now wrestles as Paige for the biggest wrestling company on the planet, World Wrestling Entertainment) it seemed inevitable that our paths would cross – and they did. We beat the hell out of each other.
“It’s all come full circle for us now. We’ve fought in America, but our feud started in Norfolk and one way or another, it’s going to end in Norfolk.”
Melissa represents the SHIMMER: Women Athletes promotion based in Chicago in the United States. SHIMMER is accepted as the highest profile female wrestling promotion in the world, and as well as the reigning champion, three other wrestlers are travelling to Norwich to take on some of the best in Europe.
Three other interpromotional contests will take place at Bellatrix 7. SHIMMER’s Mercedes Martinez will defend her NCW Femmes Fatales International Championship against Norway’s Miss Mina; Bellatrix veteran Destiny will battle Canada’s LuFisto; and punk rocker Christina Von Eerie takes on Bellatrix’s Skarlett.
Elsewhere on the card, Penelope challenges British Champion Erin Angel in a rematch from their contest at Bellatrix 4 last November, which was won by Angel. Liberty defends her RQW European Championship against challenger Sammi Baynz, though win, lose or draw, Liberty faces Bellatrix World Champion Courtney Rush for the title at Bellatrix 8, which will take place at Epic Studios in March 2014.
“Bellatrix 7 will be the biggest show in our history,” promises Saraya. “Our wrestlers are going out there to prove that they are as good or better than the stars of SHIMMER and I know that Melissa and I are going to tear strips out of each other.
“We would love for as many people as possible to come along to Epic Studios on October 6 to see these great women compete to the best of their abilities, and it’s fun for the whole family.
