WWE SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan was a guest on the recent edition of Edge & Christian’s Podcast of Awesomeness and discussed a variety of topics, including him undergoing testing last year regarding the multiple concussions he had been suffering, as well as the advice that he was given from doctors.

Bryan stated that after he was cleared by a series of doctors, one specific test revealed that he had a small subacute or chronic lesion in his temporal region in the part of the brain that causes seizures and that when he revealed this to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, it was Vince who made the call for Bryan to publicly announce his retirement during WWE RAW in Seattle, Washington in February 2016.

Bryan said that the whole thing is a huge misunderstanding as the tests that revealed that he had a lesion in his temporal region was causing, according to the test, slower movement and reflexes for an athlete. Bryan said that one of the doctors that had cleared him saw his retirement announcement on WWE RAW and asked him what happened and that when Bryan revealed to him that one of the tests showed a lesion, the doctor explained to him that the term was very vague in the medical world and did not necessarily mean that it would end up with career-ending consequences.

The timing of Bryan’s comments on the Edge & Christian Podcast of Awesomeness come just days after his wife Brie Bella stated in a podcast interview that she felt that Bryan was determined to make an in-ring return and that he would do so either as a WWE superstar or with another wrestling company, noting that Bryan had been undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and has had around 40 treatments across the country. Bryan noted that the recent HBOT therapy has been helping him and that even more HBOT treatments could leave him with the ability to have, at the very least, a part-time schedule as a wrestler, whether that is in the WWE or another company.
