Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan appeared on Off The Top Rope with Jonathan Coachman on ESPN last night and talked about how difficult it was to announce that he was retiring from in-ring competition in front of his mother and his sister in his home state of Washington.

Coach asked Bryan how many concussions he has had over the course of his career, to which Bryan noted that he knew that he had 10 that were documented, but admitted that there were probably far more that were never recorded. Coach then asked about Bryan’s statement on WWE RAW that he had more tests and found out that his brain was not as okay as he thought it was, to which Bryan said that he went to New York and said that he had a newer EEG, one which measures the brain currents while taking motion into account and said that it showed that while his other tests had come out great, he was looking for this test to prove that he was ready to return to the ring, but instead, it showed that he had a sub acute or chronic lesion in his brain and that the lesion would cause or causes seizures and said that he has had post concussion seizures and this test showed exactly why he had them and that was all he needed to know and it led to him making the decision to retire.

Bryan was then asked about people playing sports and what he would tell them to do if they got a brain injury and said that people need to be cognizant of concussions, report them and don’t return to playing until you know that you are fully healed and said that people that play sports and wrestle feel the need to tough through it, but need to take care of it instead.

Meanwhile, Bryan posted the following on his Instagram account thanking fans for their outpouring of support.
