Ring Of Honor Wrestling sent out the following:

MATT TAVEN TO COMPETE IN CMLL’S INTERNATIONAL GRAND PRIX

Matt Taven is a former ROH World Television Champion, ROH World Tag Team Champion, ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion and ROH Top Prospect winner.

Now he’s looking to add an international accolade to his impressive resume. It has been announced that Taven will compete in CMLL’s prestigious International Grand Prix on Sept. 1 in Mexico.

This will be the 13th edition of the tournament, which will pit CMLL’s luchadors against international competitors from ROH and New Japan Pro Wrestling. No other participants have been announced yet.

Last year’s winner was Volador Jr., who made his first appearance for ROH this past April when he and Will Ospreay defeated Dragon Lee and Jay White in a tag match at the Supercard of Honor XI pay-per-view.

Other International Grand Prix winners include Ultimo Guerrero (twice), ROH’s Alex Shelley, Dr. Wagner Jr. and Hijo del Santo.

Taven will be a foreigner in Mexico, but he is no stranger to CMLL. He has had two successful two-weeks tours there, first in September 2016 and then again this past March.

Taven was on the winning side in a number of trios matches during the tours. In addition, he came up just short in a two-out-of-three falls NWA World Historic Middleweight Title Match against the champion, Ultimo Guerrero, on a CMLL pay-per-view in March.

After losing to CMLL star Rush in a two-out-of-three falls match in September, Taven avenged the defeat by beating Rush in his final match on the March tour.
