In an update on Michael Elgin losing the ROH World Championship to Jay Briscoe at last night’s ROH All Star Extravaganza VI internet pay-per-view event, Elgin has not left the company despite other reports.

According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Elgin is still signed to an exclusive contract with Ring of Honor Wrestling that gives him a full-time salary with the promotion and allows them to approve and deny any independent dates that Elgin has been offered.

The report notes that there are stories floating around that Ring of Honor were not happy that Elgin didn’t do more to protect the ROH World Championship while working the independents, such as his loss to Trevor Lee at the PWG Battle of Los Angeles Tournament as the company has pushed the credibility of the title since they were founded in 2002 and that another factor is that Elgin’s work visa for the United States expired and wasn’t renewed early enough.

For those wondering what that means, Elgin, who is Canadian would not be permitted to return to the United States for work after last night’s internet pay-per-view, which caused him to cancel a date with Absolute Intense Wrestling as part of their 3-day WrestleRager Festival in which he cited paperwork issues.

The report notes that the word making the rounds is that it could take up to 90 days to get Elgin’s paperwork back in order and that with the company having 8 live events, which also include 3 TV tapings in the coming months, they felt that they couldn’t be without their Champion, which is why they made the title switch that wasn’t originally planned to happen.
