New Japan Pro Wrestling announced prior to the ROH War of the Worlds pay-per-view that the promotion will introduce the IWGP United States Championship this July and that the first Champion will be crowned at the July 1st and July 2nd New Japan Pro Wrestling G1 CLIMAX special events in Long Beach, California.

For those wondering, the Championship will be determined through a round-robin tournament held over those two nights, while the first person announced for the tournament is former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal.
