In an update on Rey Mysterio’s WWE status, as we mentioned previously, Rey was re-signed to a one-year contract with the company earlier this year due to a clause in WWE contracts that allow the company to extend a performers contract if they miss a certain amount of time due to injuries, however, according to a report from The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, when Rey’s WWE contract was about to expire, he reportedly told Triple H at the time that he was not interested in renewing his deal with the company and that the two had a handshake agreement that the WWE and Rey Mysterio would go their seperate ways.

The report notes that Vince McMahon informed Mark Carano from WWE’s Talent Relations to call Rey Mysterio to inform him that they were renewing his deal with the WWE for a year based on the clause.

The former WWE Champion has been out of action since January of this year with a hand injury and recently made a video appearance at the AAA TripleMania XXII pay-per-view wishing the company well on their 22nd TripleMania event, noting that he would see the fans soon before a message appeared on screen reading, “#FreeRey” in response to his contractual status with the WWE.
