WWE released Stephen Guerrieri (aka Stevie G) and Steve Oppenheim from their roles with the company on Friday, July 19th in what was a move made to shake things up and a call made by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, with the releases not in response to any specific incident.

For those wondering, Guerrieri headed the “at home” side of the SmackDown creative process, working out of WWE’s headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut and had been working with the company since 2012, holding a lead writer position since 2014. Meanwhile, Oppenheim had been with the company since 2011 and had worked on RAW, SmackDown Live and Main Event.

The company also made another change in assigning all producers to either the WWE RAW or SmackDown Live brands going forward, as previously, producers would shift back and forth between both brands. The producers will now work one specific loop and be permanent to their assigned brand instead of being brought in and returning home due to them not being needed.
