FOX has acquired a new comedy from former WWE Champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions and Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions, with the plot of the series close to The Rock’s heart, as it will offer a look behind the scenes of the world of professional wrestling, according to a report from Variety.

The report notes that the concept of the comedy series is a look behind the scenes of the world of professional wrestling and the creation of an unlikely relationship between a young charismatic rookie wrestler, based on The Rock and a painfully awkward comedy writer new to professional wrestling, based on former WWE creative team member Brian Gewirtz, who now works with The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions.

FOX has agreed pilot commitment, meaning that as part of the deal to acquire the series, FOX will air the pilot for the series as a special whether they decide to pick up the series or not. If they made the decision not to air the pilot, then they would have to pay a penalty to the producers. Andrew Gurland, who created FX’s “Married”, will be writing the script for the pilot according to the report.
