Triple H visits London police officer wounded in London Bridge attack

Charlie Guenigault, a London police officer seriously injured during the London Bridge terrorist attack earlier this month, received a surprise personal visit from Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative, on Monday. In addition to paying tribute to Guenigault’s “exceptional bravery,” Triple H presented him with a WWE Championship and a personal video message from the officer’s favorite WWE Superstar, Sami Zayn.

PC Guenigault was off-duty, wearing Zayn’s “Worlds Apart” T-shirt while out with friends on Saturday night, June 3, when the attack occurred. Though unarmed, Guenigault ran toward the knife-wielding attackers to protect others. He suffered stab wounds to the head, leg, back and stomach, and required emergency surgery.

Making good progress with his recovery, Guenigault was discharged from the hospital two weeks after his ordeal. WWE, in partnership with Sergeant Bill Lowden of the Police Federation and Guenigault’s father, John, arranged the visit in secret, transporting the officer to an upscale London hotel in a limousine to set up the rendezvous.

Seated comfortably and unaware of what was about to happen, Guenigault was visibly shaken as the 14-time World Champion entered the room to greet him. The pair embraced before Guenigault recovered to sit and talk with Triple H, who also used his phone to play a personal message from a clearly moved Sami Zayn.

“To run in the direction of a scary situation that can’t even be described in words, to help others … for that to be your instinct to help others … that is a hero,” said Triple H. “People say a lot of times that they watch WWE because these guys are like real-life superheroes. Well, Charlie is a real hero.”

While presenting Guenigault with a signed WWE Title, Triple H explained, “The highest recognition a WWE Superstar can get is winning the WWE Championship. But this honor is also reserved for those in real life who go above and beyond.”

“It was an absolute pleasure to meet one of the greatest Superstars ever,” Guenigault said after meeting Triple H, then added, “My comments when he first walked in the room are probably not suitable for a PG audience.”
