In an update on the ongoing Gawker vs. Hulk Hogan trial, there is a new twist in the story as Silicon Valey billionaire and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel is reported to be bankrolling Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker secretly, according to a report from Forbes.com who note that the back story to Thiel’s apparent involvement is that a website that was owned by Gawker attempted to publicly out Thiel as being gay several years before he had publicly dsclosed his sexuality.

During a hearing today in Tampa, Florida, the presiding Judge over the case rejected Gawker’s attempts to have a new trial and refused to reduce the damages already ruled against them. For those wondering, a jury already ruled that Gawker must pay $140 million to Hulk Hogan for publishing snippets of a sex tape that Hogan was not aware was being filmed, while racially explicit language on one of the tapes that were shot led to the WWE terminating Hogan’s contract with the company in July 2015. Hogan filed another lawsuit against Gawker last month claiming that they leaked the material that led to his WWE firing last Summer.
