Ring of Honor Wrestling sent out the following:

ELGIN VS STRONG – ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

SUMMER HEAT TOUR – FRI, JULY 18TH – CINCINNATI, OHIO

On June 22nd at BEST IN THE WORLD, “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin finally dethroned Adam Cole and became Ring of Honor World Champion. His entire career lead up to this moment – days on the road, days in the gym, days away from home. But though Elgin’s road to the title was long, from the moment he reached the top of the mountain he has sworn to be a fighting champion.

Recently, Elgin challenged any former ROH World Champions to step up and face him – with the title on the line. Elgin takes his title of “Best In The World” as gospel and to prove it he wants to defeat everyone who is willing to accept his challenge.

Roderick Strong, on the other hand, had a less successful night at BEST IN THE WORLD. He fell victim to his own trademark submission and tapped out to the man he intended to humiliate in Nashville, young Cedric Alexander. Strong insists the victory was merely a fluke and that he still deserves to be counted among the top professional wrestlers in the world. According to Roddy, Cedric didn’t earn any respect from him that night with a “cheap” win. And there’s one fact about him that will never change:

Roderick Strong was the Ring of Honor World Champion.

Recently, Strong has focused his efforts on The Decade and humbling the up and comers of ROH. But before that, he spent some time in the House of Truth with one Michael Elgin. And HE was World Champion.

Now the tables have turned and Roderick Strong wants to answer Elgin’s challenge.

In Strong’s opinion, no other former champion is more qualified to receive a title shot. He’s been a cornerstone of ROH for years. That’s the entire mission statement of The Decade: earning respect and loyalty. And he knows Michael Elgin better than anyone thanks to their time together with Truth Martini.

Roderick Strong is even willing to admit that since those days gone by Michael Elgin has become one of the absolute top professional wrestlers in the world. But not THE best. That is still Roderick Strong and he is ready to become a two time ROH World Champion.

Nigel McGuinness has considered Strong’s demands and Elgin’s open challenge carefully. And he has reached a decision. Roderick Strong WILL get a shot at Elgin’s title – and it’s just weeks away!

On July 18th in Cincinnati, OH the ROH SUMMER HEAT TOUR will host Michael Elgin vs. Roderick Strong for the World Title!

This will be Elgin’s very first title defense as he’s leading a team to Six Man War the week before in Minnesota. After all that work and sacrifice, could Elgin’s reign become nothing more than a footnote while Roderick Strong becomes a legendary two time champion? You have to be there LIVE to find out!
