Jon Curry here, and after a year or more hiatus, I’m back with a new edition of X-Marks The Spot.

On Sunday, WWE had a great pay-per-view/special, whatever you’d like to call it. Now of course it’s wrestling so there’s going to be the bad and unbearable (see Adam Rose vs Damien Sandow and Summer Rae vs Layla respectively) but aside from that WWE really came out all guns ablazin’ at Money in the Bank, kicking off with the sorrowful announcement that the “Leader of The Yes Movement” Daniel Bryan won’t be back for some time to come due to neck surgery complications, and from there into an awesome WWE Tag Team Championship match.

The Uso’s are a great tag team and WWE should be excited they have arguably the most over tag team not named DX since, well…DX or the Hardy’s as their Champions, however, for every hero there needs to be a foil, and that’s exactly what The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) are. Fantastic job from these gentlemen in the last year, really upping their respective games, especially Erick Rowan, the noticeably greener of the two was noticeably not green last night. Great effort by these men and the tag division looks great, if nothing else than in the short-term with the likes of The Uso’s, Harper & Rowan, The Rhodes Brothers, Rybaxel, and the impending debuts on the main roster down the line of The Ascension, possibly a Justin Gabriel/Tyson Kidd team, and eventually the newly formed Vaudevillains coming up to the main roster. If I was WWE, or a WWE fan, I’d be very excited at the prospect of amazing tag team matches coming from this company over the next 6-12 months or so.

Now then after that distraction, let’s dive right into this. At WWE Money in the Bank, the WWE showcased several talents, and to myself and several people, WWE tested the waters with said talents in marquee, high-profile matches and situations. Looking amazing coming out of the pay-per-view isn’t the tNew WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. No, rather it’s Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Cesaro, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, and to a lesser extent even Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger shined in their own moments, but mainly there you have 3 talents that proved last night they could hang with the top and the best that WWE has to offer. Roman Reigns is going to be a champion, absolutely no doubt about it, as will Wyatt and Cesaro, but the pay-per-view wasn’t the night to do it. You could almost say WWE truly entered “The Future” at Money in the Bank, with the crowd mainly behind those first 6 names and turning their backs on the established acts in the main event in Cena, Orton, Sheamus, Del Rio, and Kane. Now you may say when you read that, but that’s nothing new, especially with Cena. Trust me, it’s notable. It showed us firmly and decisively that the WWE fans are ready for change, and are ready for the future to take charge.

WWE fans going forward are spoiled, the next 5 years or so is going to be a fantastic era for WWE. In the 80’s, the WWE had Hogan, Savage, Andre essentially that would be considered THE man in the WWF, and in the early 90’s it was Bret, HBK, and Taker. Lastly the 00’s you had John Cena, Triple H, and Randy Orton who were the steady constants. The next era for WWE to me draws a comparison to the “oh so precious Attitude Era” for one reason. The amount of stars that could be champion and be looked at as THE man. In the Attitude Era you had Rock, Austin, HHH, Foley, Jericho, Angle, Taker, and Kane who at any given time could be the champion for months and the fans be alright with it. Going forward, or more so, from 2015 onward, you have Cena, Orton, Bryan, Reigns, Wyatt, Cesaro, Ambrose, Rollins, Sheamus, Ziggler, Adrian Neville eventually, all of these men EASILY capable of being the World Champion at any given time, and aside from the first three, who already are stars that the fans would love being the champion as well at any given time. Look at that for a second, 11 names. That’s being spoiled as a wrestling fan if I’ve ever seen it. Also there’s names in WWE that will be very strong supporting acts that weren’t listed there, such names as Big E, Rusev, Kofi, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, The Miz and RVD depending on how long he sticks around part-time. Lastly and of course you wouldn’t need to rely on them nearly as much, but you have the occasional sprinkling of part-timers such as Big Show, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Taker, Kane, Rock, etc. Again, as a wrestling fan? THAT’S spoiled.

That’s just what’s been on my mind lately. Check back with me here at Wrestling-News.Net for my next column coming soon, which will see me discuss why the WWE should bring back the Brand Extension to help bring these new stars along even further, something that I discussed in a recent episode of Wrestling365 with Wrestling-News.Net’s Wayne Daly. You can check out all Wrestling365 shows at spreaker.com/Wrestling365 and until then, X-Marks The Spot
