Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Alberto del Rio and the WWE are said to be close to a resolution on his non-compete status, with an announcement expected to be made in the near future according to FightNetwork.com.

Del Rio was released from his contract with the company back on August 7th for what the WWE described as unprofessional conduct, while several online reports claimed that Del Rio got into an altercation with a WWE employee who allegedly made a racist joke. 4 days after his release from the WWE, Arturo Rivera, the announcer for AAA stated that Del Rio would be returning to the promotion at the 22nd Annual TripleMania event, which was confirmed by the company later in the same evening. Del Rio took part in a press conference a week after his release on August 14th acknowledging that the WWE owned the Alberto del Rio name and that he would now be working under the ring name of El Patron and that for the moment, he was under a 90-day no-compete clause that would prevent him from wrestling with AAA and as a result of his departure from the company, he was banned from wrestling in the United States for one full year.

Del Rio confirmed in later interviews that he found it unconstitutional that he could not work in the United States for one full year and stated that the person he slapped was WWE’s manager of Social Media Live Events Cody Barbierri stating, “this person made some comments, I slapped him, I feel embarrassed of my actions. After his comment, I stood up and demanded an apology for what he said, but he smiled and said nothing and I slapped him.”

While Del Rio is attempting to work out some sort of agreement with the WWE allowing him to compete in the United States and more, he was recently announced to appear for the WRESTLE-1 promotion in Japan at their November 1st event.
