2011 Wrestler Of The Year
Winner: Johnny Gargano (30%)
Runner Up: Sami Callihan (27%)
3rd Place: Akira Tozawa (20%)

This was the closest race until yesterday when Gargano pulled away. On December 25th there was 1% separating Gargano, Callihan and Tozawa. Gargano had a breakout 2011 and finished on top of both DGUSA and EVOLVE. He defeated YAMATO to win The Open The Freedom Gate Title at “Freedom Fight 2011” in an emotional bout last November. He also finished the year on top of the EVOLVE Leaderboard with most wins and best record. Gargano was in show stealing match after show stealing match en route to earning this tremendous accomplishment. Sami Callihan rose in popularity and broke out in the Match Of The Year against Dave “Fit” Finlay at EVOLVE 9. He was the backbone of EVOLVE with a hard-hitting bout vs. Zack Sabre Jr. at EVOLVE 7 and then going to the finals of the first annual Style Battle tournament at EVOLVE 8. Callihan made an impact in DGUSA with the formation of D.U.F. alongside Arik Cannon and Pinkie Sanchez. Akira Tozawa was arguably the MVP of 2011 with several incredible matches, including vs. Austin Aries at “United: Philly”, BxB Hulk at “United: Finale”, PAC at “Mercury Rising 2011”, YAMATO at “Open The Ultimate Gate 2011”, AR Fox at “Uprising 2011”, Masato Yoshino at “REVOLT!” in addition to several spectacular tag team encounters. The future of DGUSA and EVOLVE looks bright with these three standouts in 2012.

2011 Match Of The Year
Winner: Sami Callihan vs. Fit Finlay at EVOLVE 9 (31%)
Runner Up: Johnny Gargano vs. YAMATO at DGUSA “Freedom Fight 2011” (21%)
3rd Place: YAMATO vs. Austin Aries at DGUSA “Mercury Rising 2011” (13%)

Callihan vs. Finlay at “EVOLVE 9: Gargano vs. Taylor” on July 26th in Manhattan, NY easily won and rightfully so. This was a brutal war filled with emotion. Finlay showed the world why he is one of the most respected veterans going today. Callihan broke out with a gutsy, intense performance. This is a Match Of The Year EVOLVE can be proud of. Gargano vs. YAMATO was a dramatic battle to close out DGUSA’s year on November 13th at “Freedom Fight 2011” in Manhattan, NY. The crowd was brought to their feet several times as Gargano fought to win the Open The Freedom Gate Title, ending YAMATO’s incredible title reign. Austin Aries promised to put his career on the line against YAMATO and the DGUSA Title at “Mercury Rising 2011” on April 2nd in Atlanta. The result was one of Aries’ greatest career matches and an emotional contest. Aries vs. YAMATO just barely captured third place in a heated race that included BxB Hulk vs. Akira Tozawa from “United: Finale” on January 30th in Union City, NJ and the historic Title vs. Title Match pitting CIMA & Ricochet vs. PAC & Masato Yoshino at “Way Of The Ronin 2011” on September 11th in Milwaukee. It was an incredible year for in ring action at DGUSA and EVOLVE. It’ll be a tremendous ride to see what 2012 brings.

2011 Feud Of The Year
Winner: Ricochet vs. PAC (42%)
Runner Up: Blood Warriors vs. Ronin (39%)
3rd Place: D.U.F. vs. Sabu, AR Fox & Jon Davis (18%)

It was an intense year of feuds and grudge matches in DGUSA and EVOLVE. However, it was the rivalry between PAC and Ricochet and the war between Blood Warriors and Ronin that took center stage. PAC vs. Ricochet barely edged out Blood Warriors vs. Ronin to win this category. “The Man Who Gravity Forgot” PAC could do things no one else in the world could- until Ricochet came along. The two emerged as the two premiere, breathtaking and spectacular high-flyers on the planet. At the same time, their personalities are complete opposites. PAC, a member of Junction Three, is humble and modest while Ricochet, a part of Blood Warriors, is brash and cocky. This was a natural rivalry that played out on several events in both the United States and Japan. The seeds of Blood Warriors vs. Ronin were set in 2010 and the feud exploded last January at “United” weekend when CIMA led Blood Warriors to turn on the fans and Ronin. Meanwhile, Ronin gained popularity. This feud between the stables supplied plenty of must see single and tag team matches throughout the year. It’s still not settled going into 2012 as Chuck Taylor & Rich Swann have their sights set on the DGUSA Tag Team Titles held by CIMA & Ricochet. D.U.F. vs. AR Fox, Sabu and Jon Davis brought blood and violence to DGUSA. It really heated up last June with this vicious attack and culminated at “Freedom Fight 2011” with the most violent match in DGUSA history as Sami Callihan, Arik Cannon & Pinkie Sanchez fought Fox, Sabu and Davis in Extreme Warfare. It ended with Callihan smashing a glass bottle over the head of Fox. This one is not over yet. The union between DGUSA and EVOLVE will lead to even deeper and more intense feuds and rivalries in 2012. Things are just heating up.

2011 Tag Team/Stable Of The Year
Winner: Ronin (36%)
Runner Up: D.U.F. (30%)
3rd Place: CIMA & Ricochet (21%)

Ronin of Johnny Gargano, Chuck Taylor & Rich Swann held a solid lead from the time voting began all the way until the end. It is hard to argue with their popularity and success after forming in late 2010. 2011 saw the trio travel tour Japan, which led to Swann living in Japan for about half of the year. Gargano and Taylor both tied on top of the EVOLVE Leaderboard with most wins and best record. As a unit, they feuded against Blood Warriors throughout the year. Now Gargano is set to defend the DGUSA Title while Taylor & Swann are focused on winning the DGUSA Tag Team Titles from CIMA & Ricochet. If they win all the belts we could easily see them repeat as Tag Team/Stable Of The Year in 2012. D.U.F. of Sami Callihan, Arik Cannon and Pinkie Sanchez came to life at “Open The Ultimate Gate 2011” when Callihan & Cannon formed a team. Sanchez joined the stable in June. The three brought an aggressive attitude that appealed strongly to a certain segment of the fanbase. They made their marks with a feud against then Open The Dream Gate Champion Masaaki Mochizuki & Susumu Yokosuka last June and more recently Sabu, AR Fox and Jon Davis. D.U.F. made noise on the final DGUSA weekend of 2011 with a great match against CIMA & Ricochet for the DGUSA Tag Team Titles at “Bushido: Code Of The Warrior 2011” before ending the year with a victory in the most violent match in DGUSA history at “Freedom Fight 2011” against Sabu, Fox and Davis. D.U.F. only promises to get stronger in 2012. The fact Open The United Gate Champions CIMA & Ricochet finished third is a testament to how strong the DGUSA/EVOLVE tag team division is. CIMA & Ricochet can easily be called the best team in the business. They won the DGUSA Tag Team Titles in an incredible match from reigning champions PAC & Masato Yoshino at “Way Of The Ronin 2011” in Milwaukee. A long title reign could cement them as the 2012 winners in this category. It will be very interesting to see what happens with all the tag teams and stables in 2012 with so much competition.

2011 Show Of The Year
Winner: “EVOLVE 9: Gargano vs. Taylor” – 7/26 – NY, NY (23%)
Runner Up: DGUSA “Mercury Rising 2011” – 4/2 – Atlanta, GA (18%)
3rd Place: DGUSA “Freedom Fight 2011” – 11/13 – NY, NY (14%)

This was another really close race. Only 1% separated EVOLVE 9 and “Mercury Rising 2011” until yesterday when EVOLVE 9 pulled ahead permanently. EVOLVE 9 featured the Match Of The Year between Dave Finlay and Sami Callihan, a great main event as Ronin members Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor battled for the top of the Leaderboard, Kevin Steen caused mayhem before entering a three-way war with Jon Davis and Bobby Fish as well as great action with today’s new stars and top upcoming talent from the opening match on. Many have called this the best card in EVOLVE history and your voting has backed that up. DGUSA “Mercury Rising 2011” featured what critics called the greatest final three matches on any card anywhere this year. The triple main event saw Blood Warriors fight Ronin in an epic six man contest, the dramatic battle for the DGUSA Title between YAMATO and Austin Aries as well as a must see Open The Brave Gate Title Match as PAC defended vs. Akira Tozawa. The undercard brought the goods with more tremendous wrestling. DGUSA “Freedom Fight 2011” might have won this category if it happened earlier in the year so more people saw it when the voting took place. This was an incredible, well rounded event featuring Johnny Gargano’s emotional DGUSA Title victory over YAMATO in an absolute classic, violent Extreme Warfare between D.U.F. and the trio of Sabu, AR Fox and Jon Davis plus can’t miss undercard matches like CIMA vs. Masato Yoshino, Chuck Taylor & Rich Swann vs. Akira Tozawa & BxB Hulk, Brodie Lee vs. BJ Whitmer and more. Just missing the top three were “EVOLVE 7: Aries vs. Moxley” (Jon Moxley’s emotional farewell to the indies before going to WWE and becoming Dean Ambrose in FCW), DGUSA “Enter The Dragon 2011” (YAMATO vs. PAC in an incredible match for the DGUSA Title) and DGUSA “United: Philly” (PAC & Masato Yoshino vs. Naruki Doi & Ricochet in one of the best tag team matches this year). DGUSA and EVOLVE put on an amazing collection of shows in 2011. Now the bar is raised to top it in 2012.

2011 Best Newcomer
Winner: Uhaa Nation (48%)
Runner Up: Jon Davis (43%)
3rd Place: The Scene (9%)

Jon Davis held the lead in this category until Uhaa Nation overtook it about a week ago and never looked back. Nation was an unknown to the fans and DGUSA officials when he took part in the Seminar/Tryout on September 9th in Indianapolis. He blew away the Dragon Gate roster and officials with his performance in the Seminar/Tryout and was immediately booked on the “Chasing The Dragon” event that night. He instantly became a new sensation with a convincing victory. Nation brings unbelievable aerial skills and power together for an unbeatable combination. He just arrived home after a successful tour of Dragon Gate in Japan. Jon Davis, best known as half of The Dark City Fight Club tag team, entered DGUSA as a singles competitor. He started on the lower card and slowly built momentum with victories over all three members of D.U.F. in singles bouts and a great effort vs. Akira Tozawa at “Way Of The Ronin 2011” last September. Davis has found his footing as a singles competitor. The Scene of Caleb Konley & Scott Reed are known associates of Larry Dallas. They emerged out of Tag Team Discovery last September in the Midwest and in EVOLVE to show potential as a very promising new team. Reed is also a product of the DGUSA Seminar/Tryouts.

Keep your eye on all these talents in 2012. It will also be interesting to see who is nominated for this category in one year.
