The family of the late Matt “Doink The Clown” Osbourne filed a lawsuit in Dallas, Texas today against the WWE, alleging that brain injuries and other issues suffered while working for the WWE led to Obsourne’s death in June 2013, according to a report from The Dallas Morning News.

The report notes that the lawsuit filed on behalf of Osbourne’s children alleges that the traumatic brain injuries resulted in depression and drug abuse, which ultimately resulted in Osbourne’s untimely death.

In responding to the lawsuit, WWE’s Jerry McDevitt stated that the families of former WWE performers are being targeted by attorneys who tell wrestlers and their families that there is hundreds of thousands of dollars to be made from lawsuits similar to the ones filed against the National Football League. McDevitt also stated that the lawsuits don’t have any merit noting that they are all different from the NFL and that the WWE never had anyone claim that they had the kinds of injuries being filed in lawsuits against the company until said attorneys started doing so and said that those attorneys will go to find the destitute, people who have no money and tell them that there is money to be made and that is what is going on. McDevitt said that he feels bad for the families because they think that they will make money off of the lawsuits, which they will not.
