Bray Wanderers Football Club announced that WWE NXT superstar Finn Balor (under his real name of Fergal Devitt) was one of the donators of their €30,000 goal on GoFundMe, to ensure the survival of the club as the SSE Airtricity League gets underway once again on July 31st.

The announcement on the GoFundMe reads, “With news that the 2020 SSE Airtricity League season will return on July 31st, we now turn to getting the club and team ready for the return to action on the pitch. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge to us all, including Bray Wanderers FC, and the welcome return of football to the Carlisle Grounds brings with it many challenges which we must tackle. 2020 has been a real test for the club so far in terms of survival alone.

Our players and backroom teams have all made huge sacrifices during this period to ensure the club’s survival for which we are extremely grateful. Our underage teams across boys and girls teams have also not kicked a ball in over 4 months, and their return to football is still to be confirmed by the FAI. Our volunteers, supporters and the local community have also rallied around to ensure that the club continues to function over the past few months and as ever we are thankful to them all for their continued support. Primarily we must ensure that the Carlisle Grounds are safe for the return of football with many new measures to be introduced to comply with COVID-19 related health and safety guidelines to ensure hygiene standards and allow for suitable social distancing as with any workplace.

This is to ensure the safety of players, management, officials, volunteers and hopefully for the return of supporters (dependent on HSE guidelines). This will involve modifications to various facilities throughout the stadium including dressing rooms, medical room as well as cleaning procedures. There will place a significant financial burden on the club and we are asking anyone who can help to assist the club during this challenging time to donate what they can. With this support we hope to see supporters, both home and away fans, back in the Carlisle as soon as possible and enjoying our wonderful League!”
