It is with deep sadness to announce that former WWE referee Billy Caputo has passed away at the age of 72, with the news revealed by his daughter, Kate Caputo Miley, on her Facebook page.

The post states, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we want to share that we lost our Dad today. I don’t think there are any words that can describe the man he was and the mark he is leaving on this world. He fought a hard fight. Thanks to hospice, we were given a year with him that we will forever be grateful for. He passed peacefully surrounded by all of us. He is loved and will never be out of our hearts. RIP Billy J Caputo, Referee.”

Caputo was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma of the bone marrow in September 2018.

For those unfamiliar with Caputo’s career, he began working as a referee in the 70’s, applying for the job through the New York State Athletic Commission, which led to him refereeing matches for the WWE, while he worked in Puerto Rico for WWC as a heel referee.

On behalf of everyone associated with Wrestling-News.Net, we would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Billy Caputo.
