WWE held a conference call today to provide an update on WWE Network subscribers the day after WrestleMania, as well as other topics.

Michael Weiss opened the call and welcomed everyone, noting that George Barrios and Michelle Wilson would be joining him on the call, meaning that there would be no Vince McMahon on the call. George noted that they wanted to give an immediate update on the growth of the WWE Network and said that WrestleMania was a huge success and was a big driver of subscribers, stating that the WWE Network now had nearly two million subscribers, while subscriptions are up 11% domestically from this quarter last year.

Michelle Wilson took over the call and talked about how the company are super-serving their audience with content like 205 Live and the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, as well as new seasons of The Edge & Christian Show and WWE Story Time and pushed that the company are doing a 32 Women Tournament this Summer and that they are pleased by the ongoing growth of the WWE Network. The floor was then opened for the question and answer session.

The first question asked about whether they had an uplift in international subscribers for WrestleMania season, to which George Barrios noted that they were up 23% for international subscribers. The next question asked about the promotions that the WWE Network ran leading into WrestleMania 33 and which ones provided the best results. Barrios said that the free month provides the biggest boost, but as they get better data and analytics, then they are able to target different portions of their base and did the three months for $9.99 to a small, specific audience.

The next question asked for the hard numbers, which at first Barrios seemed reluctant to tell, before noting that paid and free subscriber total is 1,949,000 million, while the total paid is 1,661,000 subscribers. Barrios said that domestically, they have 1,452,000 total subscribers and that 1,237,000 of those are paid subscribers, while internationally, they have 497,000 total subscribers and that 424,000 of those are paid subscribers. Barrios however did decline to give numbers for the one month free promotion versus the three months free promotion.

The next question asked if they have gotten feedback in terms of the quality of WrestleMania 33 and how that plays into how WWE Network subscribers are retained. Michelle Wilson said that they had over 130 million social media views this year, over double from last year, while WrestleMania had 18 million social media fan engagements, also up from last year. The next question asked about the reception for WrestleMania 33 being available live in China for the first-time ever on pay-per-view. George Barrios noted that the WWE Network is not available there and that they feel going alone in China would be difficult. Barrios said that they have been working with their partner PPTV and that WrestleMania was hosted on pay-per-view in partnership there and said that it is a hard market and even Netflix has opted not to go direct to consumer there.

The next question asked about pay-per-view numbers for WrestleMania 33 through the pre-Network means, to which Barrios said that they will not get that data for a while.
