Reports coming out of Japan today are indicating that SMASH, the Japanese promotion that is run by former WWE and ECW superstar, Yoshihiro Tajiri will be shutting down operations this March due to financial disputes between the promotion and SMASH’s financial backer, Masakazu Sakai.

All shows scheduled up until March 14th will still take place as scheduled with the Korakuen Hall Tournament in Tokyo scheduled for April cancelled. SMASH helped to promote professional wrestling, MMA and kickboxing, with the word making the rounds as news became available about the future of the promotion, that WWE have reached out to a number of their stars for the Cruiserweight-Style show that the company are planning to air on the WWE Network later in the year.

Masakazu Sakai sent out a statement on the future of the promotion (in Japanese) at this link.
