Former Syracuse University defensive lineman Josh Black has signed a three-year rookie contract (WWE NIL Deal) with the WWE following recent tryouts during WWE SummerSlam weekend, Black noted in an interview with Jay Taft of the Rockford Register Star.

“I waited and waited, but it was so worth the wait. I was a little struck, it was one of those moments where you are like, is this really happening. I was a little worried when I didn’t hear back sure, but I knew I had a good thing going, I knew I did well at that tryout.

Now, I’ve got a contract coming in about a week, and then it’s off to Orlando in the next two or three months for a new life.”

Black played six seasons of college football and afterwards, he competed for NFL roster opportunities with the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints, being cut by the Saints before the 2022 NFL season opener.
