Former WWE NXT Women’s Champion and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Kairi Sane is said to be departing the company and returning home to Japan, as soon as it is safe to do so, according to a report from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer.

The report notes that Sane is returning to Japan in order to be closer to her husband and not travel back and forth and is something that has been in the works for a while and something that the WWE have known about since May, if not earlier.

The report adds that although she is cleared, it is unknown as to whether she will be part of any upcoming storylines on WWE television, despite being listed for this week’s tapings. The idea in play before Sane recently got injured was to do a career-ending injury angle, which would see Sane announce her departure and Asuka go on to face off against that person at WWE SummerSlam with the WWE RAW Women’s Championship on the line. The two candidates, prior to Paul Heyman’s role within WWE changing for that storyline were Charlotte Flair and Shayna Baszler, with things unknown as to whether WWE plan to follow-up with that storyline.
