WWE SmackDown Live superstar Kevin Owens will not be appearing at next month’s WWE Super ShowDown event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, according to a report from Fightful.
The report notes that Owens recently informed WWE officials that he did not want to work the event and that no specific reason was given as to why, despite him working last year’s Greatest Royal Rumble event.
Owens’ long-time friend Sami Zayn has been off the events in Saudi Arabia over the years, due to the strained relationships between Saudi Arabia and Syria. WWE issued a statement previously regarding Zayn not appearing at the events which read, “WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world.”
For those that may have missed last night’s SmackDown Live broadcast, WWE superstar Dolph Ziggler made his return to the company and has been moved into a WWE Championship program against Kofi Kingston at the WWE Super ShowDown event.
