CMLL officially announced La Sombra vs. Atlantis in a mask vs. mask match at the 82nd Anniversary show on September 18th. It took about an hour to get to that announcement and the press conference went from what seemed like CMLL filling time to make the announcement into suddenly becoming quite interesting. They made the announcement that tickets for the CMLL 82nd Anniversary show would go on sale via Ticketmaster and followed that news up with the announcement that the annual CMLL bodybuilding competition would be held on November 25th and had La Mascara as a guest to talk about the competition.

La Mascara mentioned that he hoped that there were more CMLL luchadores willing to enter the regular-sized male division of the competition, as last year he mentioned there weren’t too many. They then brought out Shocker, Blue Panther, Olimpico, Rey Bucanero and Felino to join La Mascara on the stage and announced CMLL commemorative lottery tickets featuring CMLL stars to celebrate the 82nd Anniversary and let every one of the luchadores on the stage talk about this. Up next, they had this year’s En Busca de Un Idolo final four (Guerrero Maya Jr, Boby Zavala, Disturbio and Esfinge) and the two trainers (Virus and Negro Casas) on stage. Esfinge finished 4th and Disturbio finished 3rd in the tournament. They then announced Guerrero Maya Jr vs Boby Zavala in the Final for Friday’s show (you can watch this on ClaroSports.com). Guerrero Maya Jr thanked fans for using their computers and cell phones when voting for him.

CMLL then aired a Dr. Wagner Jr video and made the announcement that he would be returning to CMLL on August 28th! Took a few seconds for this to sink in, because the last time Dr. Wagner Jr was mentioned as appearing in a CMLL building, it was for ALL ELITE, but apparently, he is back in CMLL. CMLL announcer Julio Cesar Rivera mentioned Dr. Wagner Jr was currently in the United States. Suddenly, some music started playing and Julio Cesar Rivera looked up at the roof as if he was confused why there was music being played. Then L.A. Park strolled into the press conference and Julio Cesar Rivera made the announcement that L.A. Park was returning to CMLL! L.A. Park joked that he was only there because he heard CMLL was holding a press conference and he felt this was the best place to challenge Rush, since Rush had told him if he wanted a mask vs. hair match, Rush would only do it in Arena Mexico. L.A. Park sat down for an interview with Julio Cesar Rivera and talked about how he heard that CMLL only wants their own talent on their shows, but he stated he was there to prove that indie luchadores like him can match up with CMLL talent. He then suggested that he and Dr. Wagner Jr put their differences aside and that they join to battle against CMLL. Julio Cesar Rivera mentioned that L.A. Park’s CMLL return date was still not confirmed. L.A. Park then mentioned he hoped CMLL’s programming department booked him soon, so he can fill up their empty arenas.

Atlantis and La Sombra were up next and La Sombra quickly demanded the mask match at the Anniversary. Jose Luis Feliciano from CMLL’s programming department came out with contracts and it became official, La Sombra vs. Atlantis in a Mask vs. Mask match at CMLL’s 82nd Anniversary. Julio Cesar Rivera mentioned there might be additional details on CMLL Infora, so stay tuned. CMLL hyped Atlantis and La Sombra as the last two winners of mask matches of the past two anniversary shows, so there is some sort of build-up to this match, however they only really kicked this into high gear the last 2 weeks with La Sombra ripping off Atlantis’ mask during matches. There were other possibilities like Ultimo Guerrero vs. Thunder or others involved in a mask match like Mephisto, who has also been feuding with Atlantis recently. It’s good they went with a singles match. The returns of L.A. Park and Dr. Wagner Jr could make this a very loaded show.
