The National Wrestling Alliance sent out the following:
“Addictive and Expensive” Byron Wilcott defeated Carson on January 11 at NWA™ Houston’s “Next Level 2013” to become the new NWA™ North American Heavyweight Champion. Carson was originally scheduled to defend his title against former NWA™ World Jr. Heavyweight Champion “Modern Day Hero” Kevin Douglas, but Wilcott used his financial influence to secure Douglas’ title shot. After 25 minutes of action that kept fans on the edge of their seats, and often on their feet, it seemed that Carson was ready to put away his challenger with his patented “Carson kick”. Unfortunately, Carson’s previously injured knee gave out and the champion faltered. Wilcott quickly took advantage of the situation and executed a “gut buster” on Carson prior to securing the pin fall victory. Wilcott came in to this match holding a November 9, 2012 North American Heavyweight Championship match victory over Carson via a questionable disqualification decision by the referee. Wilcott did not win the title in November though as NWA™rules stipulate that titles can not change hands on a disqualification.
Wilcott becomes the 39th NWA™North American Champion since Greg “The Hammer” Valentine was first awarded the title in October of 1994. Carson’s short but impressive reign began on October 12, 2012 when he defeated “The Temptation” Shaun Tempers in Cypress, Texas. Highlights of Carson’s reign, include successful defenses against Tempers, Raven and Robbie E.
