The Pro Wrestling NOAH and the DDT Pro Wrestling promotions in Japan, who are both owned by CyberAgent, announced during a press conference earlier this morning in Japan that the two will merge to become CyberFight on September 1st.

The merger will see Sanshiro Takagi serve as the President of CyberFight, while Naomichi Marufuji and Akito will serve as Executive Vice Presidents.

Speaking about the merger, Sanshiro Takagi said that the in-ring work of each promotion will be totally unaffected by the upcoming merger and that the goal for the promotion is to be able to run an event in the Tokyo Dome. Takagi said that the merger was triggered by the economic situation driven by COVID and that they wanted to streamline costs where they could, noting that the promotions barely had any shows in April, when talks of a merger began.

Naomichi Marufuji followed up with his own statement stating that he is sure that some fans may have concerns, but that nothing will change and that if anything, it will work positively for them to try and get to the top of the industry.
