An internal decree was issued recently that states that the WWE NXT Women’s Championship should now be referred to as the NXT Championship, removing the gender specificity from the title, according to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com.

The report notes that it is unclear as of writing as to whether the WWE RAW and WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship will fall under the same decree, however the move from WWE NXT’s end comes just days after Becky Lynch noted on WWE Backstage on FS1 that she believes that the term “women’s” should be dropped from the division, with the belief that it was starting to hold back the division itself.

As things stand, Rhea Ripley is still listed as the WWE NXT Women’s Champion on the WWE’s official website.
