In an update on the WWE releasing talent earlier this year, plans for the post-launch downloadable content for the upcoming WWE 2K22 game had to be changed, according to a report from Sports Gamers Online.

The report notes that the first DLC package was scheduled to be based around former WWE NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed, however when Reed was let go by the company, the plans for that DLC package were effectively over with and that at least another four superstars who were released on August 6th were penciled in for the game, but that due to the releases, the development teams at Visual Concepts and publisher 2K Sports were left scrambling for plans for downloadable content as two DLC packages had to be shelved as a result of those releases over the past few months.

Additionally, the report notes that while this is merely a rumor at this point, instead of the standard DLC packages, 2K Sports has discussed moving to more of a “service” for roster updates, which is typically the norm for other 2K Sports titles and that as part of the rumored service, when elements such as a new or an updated gimmick are introduced for WWE stars, Visual Concepts will release the updates via standard title updates through the game’s life cycle and that if a new superstars was to debut during the life cycle of the game, then 2K Sports wants to build good will with those who purchased the game by releasing that new superstars for free.
