Former three-time WWE NXT Champion, two-time WWE United States Champion and 2015 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Winner Samoa Joe has been released from his contract with the company, according to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.

Joe was released from his contract with the company on April 15th, 2021, but was re-signed in June after reports that Triple H was unhappy regarding his release and expressed an immediate interest in bringing him back to the company.

Joe returned in an on-screen role on the June 15th episode of WWE NXT, as the enforcer for WWE NXT General Manager and made an in-ring return at NXT Takeover 36 on August 22nd, defeating Karrion Kross to become a three-time WWE NXT Champion, however on September 12th, Joe was forced to relinquish the title due to an undisclosed injury, his last on-screen appearance for the company.
