NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and Charlotte headline NXT’s Philadelphia debut

Philadelphia is a city known for sports-entertainment revolutions. Fans in the jam-packed Tower Theater for NXT’s Philly debut last night saw the latest salvo in a new uprising, as NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and Charlotte main evented the historic event.

“It’s crazy to see how far women’s wrestling has come,” Banks told WWE.com before the event. “Charlotte and I are main-eventing tonight in Phildaelphia and it’s humbling. Who would ever guess when I was 10 years old that I’d be main-eventing an event as big as this?”

Though the two Divas had tough acts to follow, including NXT Champion Kevin Owens, Finn Bálor and their uber-popular colleague Bayley, Banks and Charlotte succeeded in tearing the house down. They had the City of Brotherly Love standing, cheering and chanting throughout an epic championship bout. In the end, The Boss retained her title by forcing Charlotte to tap out to the Bank Statement, then both Divas earned thunderous roars of approval from the notoriously hard-to-please Philly faithful.

#GiveDivasAChance has been the rallying call of fans who want to what WWE’s female competitors are truly made of inside the squared circle. In recent weeks, the women of NXT have been proving what Divas are truly capable of when they are given the opportunity.

“I think what makes this group of women special is … the fact that when you watch NXT, each female stands out,” Charlotte said. “We’re either semi main-eventing if you look at [TakeOver: Unstoppable], or main-eventing tonight, where there’s two Divas matches. It goes to show we’re just as big a part of the brand as the guys are, and it’s because of how hard we worked.”

And if you ask any of the NXT Divas, landmark performances like Thursday night’s spectacular are only the beginning.

“The more they give us, the more we deliver,” Charlotte said. “The sky’s the limit for this group of women.”
