Seiji Goto, best known to wrestling fans as Tarzan Goto, passed away yesterday at the age of 58 following a battle with liver cancer, according to a report from Tokyo Sports.

Goto, who was originally a sumo wrestler, began his career with All Japan Pro Wrestling in 1981 and joined Atsushi Onita’s Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW) promotion in 1989, becoming known for his hardcore style and competing in the first-ever No Ropes Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match at FMW Summer Spectacular in August 1990.

Speaking to Tokyo Sports regarding Goto’s passing, Mr. Gannosuke, who was trained by Goto at the FMW Dojo stated, “I still can’t believe it and I can’t really feel it. Thanks to Mr. Goto’s strict teaching, what I’ve been able to do for many years is a fortune. I’m just grateful. I pray for his soul.”
