Former WWE Superstar to open Professional Wrestling School in Kansas City

Lenexa, KS – Pro Wrestling hopefuls will soon have a new place to learn and master their craft as the Kansas City Pro Wrestling Training Center opens its doors in February. Former WWE Superstar/Tag Team Champion Trevor Murdoch is teaming with KC native Derek McQuinn to bring a professional wrestling training center back to Kansas City. Murdoch and McQuinn were both trained by pro wrestling legend “Handsome” Harley Race. Murdoch who was one of the first graduates of the Harley Race Wrestling Academy said “This is a dream come true for Derek and me. I want to pass on the knowledge I learned from Harley to not only teach new students, but help experienced wrestlers improve their fundamentals and skills”. In addition to his training from Race and nearly 5 years in WWE, Murdoch also spent 6 months in Pro Wrestling Noah’s dojo in Japan. In the dojo, Murdoch trained under Japanese legend Mitsuharu Misawa, Noah superstars Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA (now with WWE NXT). Murdoch also had two stints with Total Non-Stop Action (TNA) Impact Wrestling. Murdoch is the first wrestler ever to go from the independent circuit to WWE TV to a WWE Champion 4 weeks later.

McQuinn was also a graduate of the Harley Race Wrestling Academy in 2002. In 2009, McQuinn suffered a second torn rotator cuff and that’s when he decided to hang up “the boots” to pursue a career in personal training. In 2010, McQuinn met world class trainer, Todd Durkin from Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego who trains NFL Superstars Drew Brees, Darren Sproles & Gerald McCoy. After 2 years of studying in the Todd Durkin Mastermind group, McQuinn’s dedication paid off when he got the opportunity to train NFL QB Shaun Hill, MLB Pitcher Boomer Potts and Nascar driver Jason Johnson.

In addition to training students to become professional wrestlers, the KC Pro Wrestling Training Center will offer a personalized fitness program. “To my knowledge, there has never been a wrestling school until now that had or has a wrestling trainer with Trevor’s credentials and a certified personal trainer on-site. This is a win-win scenario for those looking to get into professional wrestling. Trevor will be hands on and in the ring and I will be there to develop a personalized fitness program for each trainee” McQuinn said.

Murdoch stated that “Our goal is to create well rounded performers. We have access to several wrestling personalities who will help our trainees take their talent to the next level. Not only are in-ring skills important, but teaching skills such as the elements of TV production and how to create and develop a persona will give our students the best chance to succeed in this industry”.

Murdoch and McQuinn have partnered with Chris Gough, owner of the Kansas City based wrestling promotion Metro Pro Wrestling. Kansas City was the mecca of professional wrestling during the 70’s & 80’s. Guys like Harley Race, “Bulldog” Bob Brown, Rufus R. Jones & Bruiser Brody were the main attraction in the wrestling world in those days. Wrestling promotions have come and gone but not since those days has there been a company that has really made wrestling relevant in Kansas City until June 5th, 2010, when Gough debut his Metro Pro Wrestling at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. Over the last 5 years, Metro Pro Wrestling has evolved into a mix of seasoned veterans such as (Derek Stone, Mark Sterling & Jeremy Wyatt) and up-and-coming stars from all over the Midwest. Gough often surprises Metro Pro fans and brings in former NWA & WWE stars like (Murdoch, Tommy Dreamer & Ricky Morton) as an added bonus. “The KC Pro Wrestling Training Center is excited to partner up with Chris and Metro Pro Wrestling. Between the two companies, we have a tremendous opportunity to bring back the glory days of professional wrestling in Kansas City” McQuinn said.

To kick off the school opening, Murdoch and McQuinn are offering one lucky individual the opportunity of a life-time. They are giving one individual 6 months of wrestling and fitness training absolutely FREE! All entrants send in a 3 minute video explaining why they or someone they know deserve to be picked. “We want to give someone the opportunity of a lifetime. We want to help make someone’s dream come true. I have been in this business a long time” said Murdoch. “I have been extremely blessed. Wrestling has given me 18 great years and now it’s time that I give back to it” Murdoch said.
