In an update on the ending of the Asuka vs. Sasha Banks match for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship at last night’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view where Sasha Banks walked away the “uncrowned” Champion, a report from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer has provided an update as to why WWE went ahead with the ending.

The report notes that the finish, which saw Asuka inadvertently blind the WWE referee with her green mist, Bayley putting on the referee’s shirt and making the count was a last-minute decision made by the company. Vince McMahon green-lighted the change in an effort to help boost this week’s WWE RAW viewership numbers, with the hope that fans will tune in to find out how the company will address the issue regarding the WWE RAW Women’s Championship.

The report adds that this is why the company made the decision to put Randy Orton vs. The Big Show in an Unsanctioned Match on this week’s WWE RAW, instead of at Extreme Rules, as well as why Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus in a Bar Fight is scheduled for this week’s WWE SmackDown.
