In an update on IMPACT Wrestling announcing during the closing moments of last night’s No Surrender event that former IWGP Tag Team Champions FinJuice (David Finlay & Juice Robinson) would be debuting for the company at this Tuesday’s IMPACT Wrestling episode on AXS TV and Twitch, a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com has provided further details on the IMPACT Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling partnership.

The report notes that the surprise announcement is not a by-product of New Japan Pro Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling’s collaboration that has seen KENTA appear on AEW Dynamite and that the agreement to have FinJuice appear on IMPACT Wrestling was actually made before AEW’s and NJPW’s agreement, with discussions taking place in Summer 2020, around the same time that The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) signed with IMPACT Wrestling, while FinJuice were originally scheduled for the last set of tapings, however a scheduling conflict pushed back their debuts with the company.

The report adds that when The Good Brothers signed their contracts with IMPACT Wrestling, they had asked for a clause that would allow for them to wrestle for New Japan Pro Wrestling and that with them signing with IMPACT and New Japan’s desire to use them, it was effectively seen as a way for both companies to mend their relationship, with the appearance from Chris Bey as part of the NJPW Super J-Cup also seen as an early step towards the relationship being mended and both sides attempting to build a stronger one this time around.
