In an update on several WWE NXT contracts to have expired or those that are close to expiring this year, that is due in part to those wrestlers previously passing on contract extensions with the company, according to news first reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select.

The report notes that WWE NXT superstar Johnny Gargano is one of several WWE NXT stars who were offered new contracts in the fall of 2019 when WWE NXT moved to the USA Network for their weekly live show, with WWE at the time in a major re-signing mode across all brands, with dozens of wrestlers signing new deals or restructuring their contracts.

The report states that a WWE source noted that there was not much incentive for the top WWE NXT wrestlers to re-sign with the company at the rates being offered for long-term deals which were nowhere near the deals being offered to main roster stars at the time and that there have been different payout structures within NXT, depending on the wrestlers, with this not limited to top names.

Additionally, the report adds that while Adam Cole was another wrestler who passed on the 2019 offer, other names down the card, including some who were not even being used on television passed on those deals.
