In an update on WWE branding their live event over the weekend under the Starrcade banner, the show itself was written by Michael Hayes, who was the person responsible for pitching the revival of the name back in June, according to a report from PWInsider.com.

The report notes that Hayes, realizing that the company were running Greensboro, North Carolina over Thanksgiving weekend, seized on the importance of the timing and the tradition in that market to pitch the show being re-branded as a Starrcade event and that Vince McMahon approved the idea, which led to the announcement and that the show was specifically written by Hayes with an eye on paying tribute to names that were important to that market during the Jim Crockett Promotions era and that he was the one who requested throwback graphics for the show.

The report also states that the event was a success in the area compared to the previous event held in Greensboro, as the area reacted to the show and that there is already talk of doing it again next year.
