As part of their second quarter earnings released earlier today, WWE noted that the WWE WrestleMania 28 pay-per-view event which featured The Rock vs. John Cena in the main event did 1,217,000 buys worldwide, up 158,000 buys from the 1,059,000 buys for WrestleMania 27.

The company noted that pay-per-view business numbers have risen in 2012 as the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view done 263,000 buys compared to 209,000 in 2011. The WWE Over the Limit pay-per-view done 167,000 buys compared to last year’s 140,000 buys while the returning WWE No Way Out pay-per-view done 194,000 buys in comparison to the 2011 WWE Capitol Punishment pay-per-view which done 170,000 buys.
