In a video interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting, UFC middleweight star, Chael Sonnen commented on his friendship with current WWE Champion CM Punk and noted that WWE’s Vince McMahon had his reasons for not allowing CM Punk to accompany him ringside on Saturday night in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois for his fight against Michael “The Count” Bisping.

Punk was originally scheduled to walk Sonnen out to face Mark Munoz, however Munoz went down with an injury and Michael Bisping, who was scheduled to face Demain Maia this weekend was announced as a replacement. Sonnen noted that the two are friends and that there’s a major crossover there, as people are crossover fans and just kind of all-around fans, especially when you have CM Punk in his hometown of Chicago as Punk is considered royalty in the city and it would have been fun for both guys.

Sonnen noted that he will have dinner with Punk after his UFC fight this Saturday and in an interesting bit of news, Punk has been removed once again from the 1/28 WWE Supershow prior to the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, with the top 2 matches featuring John Cena vs. Kane and a triple threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship between Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry and The Big Show.
