Ring of Honor sent out the following:

Border Wars World Title Match Set!!!

At “Supercard of Honor VII” Jay Briscoe made his dreams come true, and to be honest that of ROH officials as well, when he brought an end to the nearly one year World Title reign of Kevin Steen. It was the culmination of eleven years of hard work and dedication to Ring of Honor and it paid off on one of our biggest stages.

The newly crowned champion will make the first defense of his newly won World Championship on May 4th when ROH returns to Toronto & The Ted Reeve Arena for “Border Wars 2013” on iPPV! His opponent, based on Match Maker Nigel McGuinness’ proclamation on the 3/16/13 episode of ROH TV, will be the former World Television Champion Adam Cole!

“I declared Adam Cole a contender because he held that Television Title with honor.” said McGuinness “Adam carried it with integrity and continued the prestigious lineage that was established the day Eddie Edwards was crowned the first champion and continued with Christopher Daniels, El Generico, and the other men who have been champion. Adam showed he had the tools when he challenged Davey Richards last year in Dayton, and just like Jay Briscoe, has stood up for Ring of Honor throughout these issues with SCUM. I can think of no better way to ring in a new dawn for ROH than by presenting the first SCUM free World Title match in a year featuring these two athletes!”

Jay Briscoe will certainly head into “Border Wars 2013” on an incredible high with “You deserve it” chants still ringing in his ears but Adam Cole may be coming in on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. At “Supercard of Honor VII” Cole was the first man to pin Matt Hardy since the “Self Proclaimed Icon” returned to ROH competition late last year, but it did not parlay into reclaiming the TV Title from Matt Taven. As a matter of fact, Cole has come up on the losing end at all three of the last iPPV events (“FB 2012” to Hardy, “11th Anniversary” to Taven, & “SoH VII” to Taven).

That is a simple fact that must weigh heavily on his mind as “Border Wars 2013” creeps closer, but it is one that Cole must move past if he hopes to have any chance of dethroning Jay Briscoe in Toronto.

It’s Briscoe vs. Cole for the ROH World Title and it will go down live on iPPV on May 4th! Great seats are also available right HERE in the ROH Store for both this event as well as our first international TV Taping the following day! And don’t forget about the participation of Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Naomichi Marufuji and GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori!
