WWE sent out the following:

Phoenix injured in Divas Title loss
In her WWE Divas Championship loss to Nikki Bella on Raw SuperShow Monday, Beth Phoenix suffered what WWE medical personnel have confirmed is a severe sprain to her left ankle. Phoenix was limping visibly after she leapt from the ring apron to the floor during the championship encounter, which was contested in a Lumberjill Match. After the bout, WWE trainers assisted Phoenix to the locker room area.

According to Dr. Michael Sampson, the former Divas champion will undergo an MRI. “It looks like she affected her anterior talofibular ligament, which is the most common injured ankle ligament on an inversion injury,” Sampson told WWE.com. “She has some swelling, [and] she’s having a hard time walking or ambulating on it. We’re going to need an MRI just to make sure there’s nothing else going on and see how we can treat it – if we need surgery or if we can do it conservatively.”

Josh Mathews recovering after his attack from Brock Lesnar
WWE.com has learned that Josh Mathews is in stable condition following a vicious attack at the hands of Brock Lesnar during Raw SuperShow in Detroit Monday night. Mathews had been interviewing the self-proclaimed “wrecking machine” about his upcoming Extreme Rules contest against John Cena when Lesnar – evidently unhappy with the quality of Mathews’ questions – snapped and drove the helpless Mathews through the interview set, leaving him strewn across the backstage area while paramedics rushed to his aid. “When [Josh] was thrown through the set, he did land and twisted his neck, and he’s experiencing some neck stiffness, tightness,” said locker room physician Dr. Michael Sampson to WWE.com reporters.

Though Mathews appeared to have sustained no serious damage apart from some abrasions from crashing through the set, Dr. Sampson did note he was taken for an MRI as a precautionary measure. “[We want] to make sure there’s no other serious damage other than just a neck sprain,” he explained, although he did note that Mathews had not shown any bruising yet, “which is a good sign.” Given that Lesnar has demanded carte blanche to do what he likes as compensation for his match against Cena, one can only wonder if attacks like this are destined to be the norm in John Laurinaitis’ WWE.
