Every year, the WWE Universe is treated to a night where every championship the company holds is contested live on pay-per-view. That event is Night Of Champions. The events leading up to this event were, mostly filled with the bad blood from the previous SummerSlam event boiling over. With Daniel Bryan still seeking to prove that he is worthy of the WWE Championship, CM Punk still hell-bent on revenge against Paul Heyman and RVD aiming to prove he hasn’t lost a step during his absence; this event was set to offer something for even the most casual of wrestling fans. So, how did the reality compare to the on-paper quality of this card?

As always, all opinions expressed herein are exclusively my own opinions and, they do not reflect the views of other staff of Wrestling-News.Net; nor are they the views or opinions of Fremantle Media who allow me to review WWE events

To be frank, this pay-per-view does not manage to continue the form from WWE’s SummerSlam the month previous.  Night Of Champions is a pay-per-view with positives and negatives to it so, it won’t be a purchase for everybody.

The negatives associated with this event are widely known. From the screwy finishes to the events that followed this event, it certainly overshadows the good of Night Of Champion – an event that has a few dark-horse matches that you forget how enjoyable they are until re-watching.  Dolph Ziggler vs Dean Ambrose and The Shield vs The Prime Time Players are both match of the night candidates. All 6 men involved over these two matches have great work ethic and do not disappoint on this card with a stellar singles and tag team match featured.

The World Heavyweight Championship match between Alberto Del Rio and the returning Rob Van Dam is a great match that is shadowed by the outcome. Del Rio and Van Dam finally click and put on a pay-per-view quality, albeit a little stiff-looking at times, match. The ending is somewhat understandable given the desire to make Van Dam look good but not overly so considering his, now, well-known contract status.

Regardless of the outcome, the main event featuring Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton is still another top quality bout featuring two of the best WWE has to offer. After a series of matches, both men know each other and their respective styles perfectly and, through this, they are able to put excellent match after excellent match without coming across as stale.

The extras on this DVD/Blu-Ray release are a nice addition to the event. The Tag team turmoil match is a welcome addition to the dvd release to explain the Tag Team championship match between The Shield and The Prime Time Players. This match, although can appear too clustered with competitors at times, has some nice spots that put the competitors over well enough. The Blu-Ray is probably the best value release for its extras. The inclusion of Daniel Bryan’s appearance on the Cutting Edge and AJ Lee’s “Pipe Bombshell” do well to sell this event and should arguably be watched before the actual card.

This event will definitely be hit or miss with most wrestling fans due to the screwy finish. For those who can put their feelings on the finishes aside, some of the matches are worth the second and third watch, particularly those highlighted above.  It’s also worth investing in for the journey of Daniel Bryan from outcast to superstar – this event will make his eventual championship victory all the more sweet. Witnessing his trials and tribulations to glory before finally succeeding might be the main reason in of itself to own this event.

For those in the UK, this event will be available to purchase from Monday November 11th through Fremantlemedia and is available, right now, for pre-order.
